Here at 8th & I we strive to provide our Marines and their families with the most up to date and sufficient methods in order to stay healthy and fit all while providing them with a fun and unforgettable experience. The sports, recreation programs, and our facilities are only a small part of what Marine Corps Community Services has to offer...

Gear Issue

Located at on the basement level of the 8th & I Annex building, MCCS' Gear Issue is full of many different types of equipment that are available for Marines to check out. With certain exceptions, gear may be checked out for 72 hours free of charge!

Throughout the year, MCCS Semper Fit provides Marines at 8th & I with the opportunity to participate in intramural sports leagues. There are currently 3 seasonal sports that take place at the Marine Barracks all of which are officiated by certified referees/officials. These sports include:

  • Flag Football

  • Softball
  • mccs_softball

Other sports that Marines may participate in while serving at the Barracks may include soccer, volleyball, running, etc.

Sports Facilities

The Marine Barracks currently has multiple athletic facilities including the Annex Athletic Turf Field that is designed for football, baseball, softball, soccer, and lacrosse as well as an outdoor basketball court and a high school regulation indoor basketball court.

MCCS Semper Fit accepts reservation requests for many of the fitness facilities including the Athletic Turf Field and the Basketball Gym.

If you would like to make a reservation, please call 202-433-2721.

Please understand that the following may apply:

  • Reservation Requests are only requests. The request must be approved by MCCS before the reservation is set.
  • Marine Barracks Training Events take priority. If you have an existing reservation but the facility/space is needed for a training event, your reservation can and may be cancelled.
  • Reservations are made on a 1st come 1st serve basis; however, if your group is small and does not require a lot of room, you may be asked to share the space with other groups at the same time.


There are several facilities at the Marine Barracks where Marines and family members are able to get a great work out. With new standards for fitness, combat fitness testing, and HITT training, the fitness and training rooms have never been more necessary. MCCS Semper Fit Facilities can be found at both Post 8 and the Annex which include:

 -High School Regulation Size Indoor Basketball Court

-Post 8 Fitness Center and Atrium

-Annex Fitness Center

-HITT Center  (High Intensity Tactical Training)

Throughout the year, MCCS strives to provide Marines with fun and unforgettable experiences in the form of recreational events whether it is an outing to someplace fun or even an in-house celebration of sorts. Past events have included:

  • Oktoberfest with live music and German cuisine
  • Halloween and Costume Parties
  • Spring BBQ
  • Ski/Snowboard Trips to nearby resorts

MCCS also provides our Marines with Recreation Centers and Computer Labs so that Marines can enjoy leisure time playing video games (Playstation 4, and XboxONE), watch movies on large screen televisions as well as stay connected with friends and family on our free Wi-Fi Internet Service.

Health Promotions

MCCS 8th & I Health Promotions & Education offers a wide range of programs and education to help improve the health and happiness of the individual.

Our programs include both group and individual instruction on health, fitness, nutrition, injury prevention, smoking cessation and other health related topics. 

You can also schedule personal fitness training/assessment by appointment only.

Our belief is that when a person improves their health, they become empowered to pursue the life of their dreams!

Classes are scheduled and offered as individual sessions, small groups/platoon, or for company training:

*Classes coordinated with either Henderson Hall or Navy Yard Medical Personnel

Personal Fitness Training & Assessment

We can assist in helping you achieve your personal fitness goals through fitness training and assessment. Our fitness assessment includes measuring your cardiovascular fitness, muscular endurance and flexibility. Personal Training includes designing a workout for you based on the assessment and goals. We can work with you one-on-one or just offer you guidance with your workout routine, whatever fits your schedule best.
